Abstract

This study examined the influence of Business Education programmes on the entrepreneurial
mindset and financial acumen of final-year undergraduate students at Lagos State University.
A descriptive survey research design was adopted. The population comprised seventy-nine
(79) final-year Business Education students, and a census sampling technique was employed
to include all members of the population. Of the 79 questionnaires administered, 71 were
duly completed and found usable for analysis, representing a response rate of 89.9%. Data
were collected using a structured questionnaire based on a four-point Likert scale. The mean
and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions, and a one-sample t-test
was used to test the hypotheses at the 0.05 level of significance. The findings, based on the 71
valid responses, revealed that Business Education programmes significantly influence
students' entrepreneurial mindset by enhancing entrepreneurial thinking, creativity,
opportunity recognition, and practical business skills. The findings further showed that the
programmes significantly improve students' financial acumen, particularly in budgeting,
financial decision-making, financial planning, and cost management. The study concluded
that Business Education programmes contribute significantly to the development of an
entrepreneurial mindset and financial acumen among undergraduates. It was recommended
that universities strengthen practical entrepreneurship training and financial literacy
education to better prepare students for self-employment and effective business management.
