Abstract

Woodwork enterprises in Nigeria are becoming globally competitive businesses which to an
extent are dependent on knowledge shaped by apprenticeship training, which are the light
that radiate woodwork enterprises abilities as well as growth. The study focused on
apprenticeship training as a method of tacit knowledge transfer and growth of woodwork
enterprises in Olamaboro, Kogi State, Nigeria. Trainees had been the bane of quality
products in the woodwork manufacturing enterprises which had called for the nature of
knowledge acquired. The objectives of this study are to investigate the skills acquisition of
trainees and growth of woodwork enterprises and to determine the extent of relationship
between trainees’ feedback and growth of woodwork enterprises in Olamaboro, LGA, Kogi
State,, Nigeria. The population of the study is the total number of trainees in woodwork
enterprises as of June, 2026, which was 5010 with a selected sample size of 525 through
simple random approach. Two hypotheses were tested at a 95% confidence level. A
quantitative approach was employed for the study with a survey method. The study used
primary data through 5point Likert scale structured questionnaire. The data generated were
analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The inferential statistics employed
in this study included SEM-PLS path coefficient, confirmatory factor analysis and
bootstrapping. The findings revealed that skills acquisition of trainees have significant
relationship with growth of woodwork enterprises (β=0.129, p< 0.001), trainees have
positive relationship with growth of woodwork enterprises in Olamaboro, Kogi State,
(β<0.076, p<0.000). The study established that skills acquisition have the most significant
relationship with growth of woodwork enterprises in Olamaboro, Kogi State. The study
recommends that woodwork should give prominence attention to trainees and employees with
skills acquisition in getting a job done as well as encourage employees with employees/trainees feedback even if the report does not speak well of the knowledge at the
point of employment and training.
