specifically raised and answered. Are lecturers adequate in the various programmes
in federal, state and private universities in Edo State in terms of students: teacher
ratio? What is the quality of manpower resources in the various programmes in
federal, state and private universities in Edo State? What is the utilization rate of
lecturers in each of the programmes in the universities under study in Edo State?
The ex-post factor design was adopted been that the data obtained already existed in
the universities. For each of the stratified and purposively selected university, 10%
of programmes that cut across them were randomly selected. The data were
collected using checklist, analysed and the findings revealed that there was shortage
of lecturers, most lecturers do not have a Ph.D degree and they were over utilized. It
was therefore recommended that, lecturers should be employed strictly in areas of
need with the right qualification with Ph.D and they should adhere to the minimum
teaching hours recommended by NUC.
