The problem addressed in this article lies in the researcher's observation of the
weak performance of secondary school students in Damaturu in understanding
Arabic grammar and applying its rules. After a thorough investigation, the
researcher realized that some of the causes are related to the problems facing
grammar instruction in classrooms, which calls for an urgent solution.
Accordingly, this research attempts to address those problems. The following
questions arise from this problem: What are the problems facing the teaching of
Arabic grammar in secondary schools in Damaturu? What are the causes of these
problems? What are the methods employed to solve them? This research aims to
identify the problems facing the teaching of Arabic grammar in secondary schools
in Damaturu, explain their causes, and propose the methods used to solve them.
The analytical approach is employed to analyze these problems and explain their
causes. The significance of this research lies in improving the level of secondary
school students in Arabic grammar through the quality of its instruction. This
research is limited in subject matter to addressing the problems of teaching Arabic
grammar, excluding other pedagogical grammar issues. It is limited in place to
secondary schools in Damaturu, and in time to two years, from 2025 to 2026. The
paper has reached several findings, the most important of which are: some
secondary school students in Damaturu suffer from a lack of proficiency in
grammar as a result of being taught using traditional teaching methods that focus
on memorizing rules without comprehension, in addition to a lack of interactive
activities that help students apply these rules properly. Furthermore, there is a
deficiency in capacity building regarding continuous teacher training to develop
their professional competence in modern strategies for explaining Arabic
grammar, as well as reliance on inappropriate curricula.
