IMPACTS OF HEALTH EDUCATION IN THE PREVENTION OF THYPHOID FEVER AS PERCEIVED BY IJERO RESIDENTS IN EKITI STATE

Hand washing and environmental sanitation are of utmost importance and it is a tool for
empowering the residents on the prevention of typhoid fever. This study therefore aimed at
examining the impacts of health education in the prevention of typhoid fever as perceived by
Ijero residents in Ekiti state. The objectives were to assess whether (i) hand washing is an
impacts of health education in the prevention of typhoid fever; (ii) environmental sanitation is
the impacts of health education in the prevention of typhoid fever as perceived by Ijero residents
in Ekiti state, the research design adopted for the study was a descriptive research design of the
survey type. The population two hundred and twenty one thousand four hundred and six
(221,406) (National Population Council, 2006), comprises of all Ijero residents, Ekiti State.
Four hundred and fifty five respondents were sampled for the study. The instrument used for the
study was a researcher developed questionnaire titled impacts of Health Education in the
prevention of typhoid Fever as perceived by Ijero residents in Ekiti state, which was validated by
three experts in related field and tested for reliability. Test re-test method was used to obtain the
reliability of the instrument. Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to obtain a
correlation coefficient result of r= 0.75. Inferential Statistics of Chi-square was used to test the
data collected.

the prevention of typhoid fever because cal. value (282.33) > crit. value (16.92); with 9 df at
0.05 alpha level.
This study concluded that hand washing environmental sanitation are significantly impact of
health education in the prevention of typhoid fever. It was therefore recommended that health educators should intensify efforts in the continuous skilled based health education programmes
such as hand washing; embark on monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
