ABSTRACT

A total of 252 broiler chickens aged 34 days were randomly allocated to six treatments (0, 7.5 and 15% ginger by-product meal (GBM) levels and 0 and 4% palm oil levels for each level of GBM) with 3 replicates per treatment; each replicate consisted of 14 birds in a 3 x 2 factorial arrangement in a completely randomized design (factorial arrangement). Feed intake (105- 117g/b/d), final weight (2030-2150g/b) and weight gain (42-46g/b/d) of birds were similar but efficiency of feed utilization decreased (p>0.05) with increase in GBM. Inclusion of palm oil had no significant effect on performance. The inclusion of GBM in the diets reduced (p>0.05) the abdominal fat content by 32%. Weight gain for birds fed 15% GBM was 42g/b/d and birds fed control diet had weight gain of 46g/b/d. GBM can be included at 15% in the diet of finisher birds to obtain optimum growth similar to using conventional feed resources
