The paper reviewed the role of home-gardening in enhancing household food security. The objective of the review is to highlight the role of home-gardening as a strategy in preventing food insecurity in Nigeria. The concept of home-garden was reviewed to have played a crucial role in households to improve their nutritional status, income and reduction in family expenditure. The paper also reviewed food security, and pillars of food security. Lack of land, water, time and education were suggested to be some of the constraints that prevented some households in practicing home-garden. One of the recommendations was that there should be an informal continuous training or awareness by extension officers to educate household members on how they could use home-garden as a tool to sustain household food security.
