AWARENESS OF RESPIRATORY DISEASE PREVENTIVE MEASURES AMONG TEACHERS OF PRIMARY SCHOOL IN KADUNA STATE NIGERIA

Abstract

The study assessed the awareness of respiratory disease preventive measures among teachers of primary schools in Kaduna State, Nigeria. To achieve this purpose, an expo factor research design was used. The population for this study was 29,626 teachers of public primary schools in Kaduna State Nigeria. The sample size of 384 was selected using a multi-stage sampling procedure which includes cluster, simple random, proportionate and systematic sampling. The instrument for data collection was a structured close-ended questionnaire developed by the researcher and it was validated by 5 experts in the Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. Descriptive statistics of frequencies and percentage was used to describe the demographic characteristics of the respondents. Mean and standard deviation was used to answer the research question and inferential statistics of one-sampled t-test was used to test the stated hypothesis at a 0.05 level of significance. The results revealed that primary school teachers in Kaduna State, Nigeria have a significant awareness of respiratory disease preventive measures (t = 53.29, p = 0.000). The study concluded that primary school teachers in Kaduna
State are aware of respiratory disease preventive measures. Based on the conclusion, it is recommended that the government should continue to prioritize and invest in health education programs that focus on respiratory diseases, particularly in primary schools, to maintain and further enhance the high level of awareness among primary school teachers.
